Monday 25 March 2019

Good afternoon everyone,

After the first week of the AFL season, it looked fantastic for the boys in purple. Great win to start the season, let’s hope this continues throughout the coming weeks.

Harmony Day – Friday 29th March
The children will be participating in a series of activities throughout the whole day that celebrate the importance of living in harmony with many different cultures.

After the prayer Liturgy in the morning, the students will move between classes in their groups to complete 3 different activities.

After this there will be a shared recess between the Year Four classes. So we are asking for all students in Year 5 to bring a plate for a shared morning tea on this day.

We would like to girls to bring a plate of savoury food and boys to bring a plate of sweet food to share. If you are able to make this reflective of your families culture that would be great!

Parent Teacher Interviews:
I have placed a schedule up on the front door of the class, if you can please write down your name on a time that suits. In week 10 they will be conducted at the following times:
-     Tuesday 9th April (3:10 – 5:30)
-     Thursday 11th April (3:10 – 5:20)
If you are unavailable for either of these days. Please let me know and we can work out a morning or something other time that suits.

Homework:
For those students that are still struggling to understand what the activities for spelling are, there is a success criteria on their Onenote.

Term 1, Week 7

Hello everyone, welcome to week 7.

YEAR 2 BUDDIES:
We have been lucky enough to be paired up with the Year 2’s as our buddy class. Every Friday after assembly we have been helping them with their weekly spelling tests. It is great to see the responsibility that the Year 5 students are showing.

SWIMMING LESSONS:
Swimming lessons have been going swimmingly over the last week and a bit.
All students have been mostly orgainsed and ready to go which is wonderful to see.

Just a reminder that there is NO canteen at all this week, due to the students being absent at the eating times.

Majority of the children have been very responsible with applying sunscreen before we leave using the class sunscreen that I distribute, however can you please ensure that you remind your child of how important it is to do this.

Term 1, Week 5

REMINDERS - WEEK 5

Ash Wednesday Mass - Tomorrow the 6th of March is Ash Wednesday. The mass will be in the hall tomorrow at 9am to welcome the season of Lent.

Swimming Lessons - Week 6&7 - Swimming lessons begin next Monday 11th March and run for two weeks. Our lessons take place at Dunsborough Foreshore (Jetty).

We ask that your child wears their bathers to school underneath their sports uniform to make life easier for them. They can wear thongs to school but they must bring their sneakers to put on after they return to school. They will need:
  • Swimming bag - not their school bag
  • Bathers & Rashie - please note that all children must wear a rashie to keep them sun safe.
  • Thongs
  • Towel
  • Goggles
  • Water bottle - perhaps think about packing a spare one as it can be a long hot day for them!

Harmony Day. March 29th 2019.

 Dear Parents,

We need you…..

On the 29th of March the students of Our Lady of the Cape Primary School will celebrate Harmony Day.

It is our aim to support the development of respect and appreciation for cultures other than their own in the students. To do this we would like to immerse the children in a rich variety of experiences that include food, music, visual arts and the development of a knowledge base of the cultural traditions of others.

Information is always best coming from those who have experienced the learning first hand so we are asking parents help out on the day.
We would love parents to lead an activity as part of a rotation between 9am and 11am on the day. There would be no more than 20 children in each group. Each session would last 15 minutes and you would repeat this activity up to 6 six times.
If you were born in another country you may wish to present some photographs, samples of traditional foods, clothing, games etc. and tell the children about how you grew up. How is was different to here… and the same as here.
If you can play a musical instrument you may like to share your skills. The children would love to listen.

Perhaps you can write some great haiku… or fold some tricky origami.
Those of you who teach dance, karate or craft may like to come and share your talents.
Children always love to cook. We would love to have someone making pasta, pizza or some other cultural delight (remembering that you only have 15 minutes).

So… if you can help please email Julie Birch. julie.birch@cewa.edu.au
