Week 6

Good morning parents,

Below are some updates for week 6.

Family Camp Hat Design:

The students in Year 5 have the opportunity to create a design for the Family Camp hat. This is not compulsory. If your child would like their submission to be considered it needs to be handed to me by Friday 31st August at the latest.

iPad Space:

During this week, the students will be asked to download some Office 365 applications on their iPads. To do this they will need to have space on their iPads.

The most efficient way to free up space is to do the following:

1.    Delete videos from Camera Roll (must empty the Recycle Bin in the Camera Roll) and video apps (Netflix, VideoStar etc)

2.    Delete photos (must empty the Recycle Bin in the Camera Roll)

3.    Delete personal apps

4.    They should not delete any school apps

All students should also update the iOS on their iPad to the latest version (10.3.3).  Do this under Settings > General > Software Update.

A SEQTA text message will be sent out to specific students later on today.

School Photo Day:

This Thursday and Friday will be OLC school photo day. The students are required to wear full winter school uniforms (including jumper) on Thursday.

Term 3 Week 5

Good afternoon parents,

Below are some updates for week 5.

Sports Uniform:

The children will be asked to wear their Sports uniform tomorrow for the Mission Markets as we will be playing a variety of games that may be played better with their sports uniform on.

Mission Day:

The Mission markets is a day dedicated to Mary our Mother and to celebrate our school's feast day. The morning will begin with a whole school Mass (which you are welcome to attend) in the hall at 9:00am.

Some information about the outline of the day:

9:00-10:00 - Whole school Mass in the hall

10:00-11:00 - Classroom activities dedicated to our Mother Mary

11:00-11:20 - RECESS

11:20 - 11:45 - Continue with activities while the K/PP's visit the stalls

11:45 - 12:45 - Children can walk around the stalls and enjoy the festivities!

12:45- 1:30 - LUNCH

1:30 - 2:50 - Rotational Games

Week 4 Term 3 Update

Good afternoon parents,

Below are some updates for week 4.

Mission Markets:

This not will be going home this afternoon in relation to the OLC Mission Markets next Tuesday.

On Tuesday 15^th August, we will be holding our Annual Mission Markets beginning at 11.45am. The Year 5 stall item this year is Coin Toss!

Can we please ask that all Year 5 families provide a block of chocolate and/or some small chocolate bars for prizes at our stall?  If you can please have these in by Friday 11th August, I would be most appreciative.

Cross Country:

Congratulations to all those who ran in the Interschool Cross Country. I heard that it was a great day and the weather stayed off until the last race.

Friendolgoy Shared Morning Tea - Friday 11th August

Dear Year 5 & 6 Parents,

Re: Friendology 101 Shared Morning Tea (Friday 11^th August)

To celebrate the end of our Friendology 101 sessions we would like to have a shared morning tea on Friday 11^th August beginning at 10am.

If all girls could please bring in a small plate of food to share that would be wonderful! Please be mindful that refrigeration space is limited.

We will be sharing our Sole Projects with each other and will enjoy the afternoon reflecting on the process and skills that we have learnt over the last term and a half and enjoying each other’s company. In our sessions we have looked at:

1. How to Get Real – focuses on the importance of being true to who you are, embracing your unique self, and dispelling myths around gender stereotypes.

2. How to Make Friends – focuses on the art of friendship-making starting with how to introduce yourself, find something in common, and have a conversation. Students also learn what’s normal in a friendship through the 4 Friendship Facts.

3. How to Be a Great Friend – focuses on the difference between healthy and unhealthy friendships using the Friend-o-meter, attributes of a great friend, and the importance of spending the most time in healthy friendships.

4. How to Put out Friendship Fires – focuses on putting a voice to your feelings and conflict-resolution using our step-by-step approach for putting out Friendship Fires®.

5. How to be a Friendship Ninja – focuses on understanding the difference between normal conflict (Friendship Fires®) and Mean-on-Purpose behaviour. Students learn how to say a Quick Comeback and report to a grown up to combat intentional unkind behaviour.

6. How to Handle Tricky Situations – highlights hot topics and common challenges in tween friendships including how to handle being in the middle, managing birthday parties, how to say “No!” to friends without feeling mean, and how to keep friendships healthy online. Students also learn the importance of expressing how you feel and being a good listener.

7. How to Take Control & Feel Heard – focuses on taking control of butterflies (e.g. anxiety) and strategies for managing those ‘movies’ in our minds.

8. How to remember URSTRONG! – brings all the topics together by reviewing and reinforcing important concepts, recognizing the strengths in one another, and a chance for each child to showcase their “sole”.
